Camp, Sebelius discuss Leland ties

U.S. Rep. Dave Camp (R-Midland) and recently confirmed Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius have something in common: Leland.
Republican Camp’s Congressional district includes Leelanau County, while Democrat Sebelius has a vacation home in Leland. The two discussed their ties to Leelanau Wednesday morning prior to a Ways and Means hearing; Camp is the minority leader on the committee.
Despite their different political agendas, both politicians paid homage to Leelanau County.

“As much as I respect this room and what happens within its walls, I think we would both readily admit that the Leelanau Peninsula ... is a much nicer meeting place,” Camp said in an opening statement.

“I think it’s an opening of bipartisanship demonstrated from the outset” that she is closer to a constituent of Camp’s rather than committee chairman Charlie Rangel, a New York Democrat, Sebelius said.
Sebelius soon moved to the reason for the meeting, held to discuss health care reform.
