
JoAnn F. Beier
1928-2007
A memorial service will be held at a later date for JoAnn Frances (Widule) Beier of Cedar who died March 17 at Munson Hospice House in Traverse City. She was 78.
She was born in Milwaukee on June 13, 1928, to Oscar C. and Laurel Widule Jr. In 1955, she married A. Leon Beier who preceded her in death.
She was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin school of journalism and worked for two newspapers before she and her husband became publishers of the Cornell Courier in Wisconsin. She later earned a teaching certificate and retired from teaching in 1987.
In 1995, she moved to Leelanau County where she was a member of the Leelanau Democratic Party, the Leland Women’s Civic Club, and the Leland Book Club. She also enjoyed playing bridge.
Surviving are her three daughters, Victoria Beier Shellman of Green Bay, Wis., Ann Beier of Milwaukee, and Katherine Beier of Cedar; a son, A. Lee (Lucinda) Beier of Normal Ill., two brothers, Tom Widule of EauClaire, Wis., and Ted Widule of Texas; and six grandsons.
