A variety of activities are planned in coming months at the Dennos Museum Center in connection with a new exhibition at the center entitled, Spirits, Relics and Rituals from the John F. Korachis Collection of African Art.
A spring break escape to Africa is set for April 2 through 6. It will feature guided gallery tours, a film about African art, and hands-on activities for the entire family.
A “drop in” activity is planned from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Janis Community Room. Participants will try their hand at designing fabric based on African designs or creating a paper mask.
The Stories, Scribbles and Wigglers Toddler Program at the museum will include story time related to the current exhibition, an activity in the museum galleries, and an art project. All programs (recommended for children two and a half to five years) are on Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The first, April 17, will focus on African animals. Other programs include land and water (May 22), African folk tales (June 19), and art adventures (Aug. 14).
Saturday, April 21, is spring family day at the museum and will feature African sculpture and music. The event, scheduled from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., will be a culmination of interactive performance of African drumming by David Warne and the drumming group from Interlochen Pathfinder School.
