GENE MEEUWENBERG of Elmwood Township displays the 16 1/2-pound, 40-inch northern pike he landed in north Lake Leelanau on March 10. Meeuwenberg was fishing on a tip-up using 12-inch Berkley Vanish line with Jack Anderson of Lake Leelanau Drive and it took him 40 minutes to land the fish, which was 1 1/2 pounds shy of earning him Master Angler status. Meeuwenberg did catch Master Angler pike in 2004 and 2005.
