A late-afternoon lightning strike left 3,000 Consumers Energy customers in Leelanau County without power for nearly 12 hours Sunday night and early Monday morning.
Tim Pietryga, a Consumers media relations spokesman, said that at 4:44 p.m. Sunday the Maple City substation went down after a suspected lightning strike. The substation services the Maple City-Glen Arbor area.
Pietryga said power was not restored until 4:21 a.m. on Monday.
