Symphony plans spring events

The Traverse Symphony Orchestra is planning a "Saturday Family Symphony" event and a season-ending gala program this spring.

"Around the World in 45 Minutes" will be performed at on Saturday, April 14, at the City Opera House in Traverse City. The performance is geared toward families and children and will be led by TSO principal percussionist David Warne and his Sun Radius Percussion Ensemble. The festivities start at 10 a.m. with percussive hands-on activities, and the concert begins at 10:30 a.m.

The TSO is also holding a gala, which will complete the 2006-07 concert season, on Saturday and Sunday, May 26-27, at the City Opera House. This is the TSO’s 55th season.

TSO music conductor and conductor Kevin Rhodes has selected three of the most requested highlights from his five years in the post for the concert. Included will be Samuel Barber’s Adagio for Strings, Aaron Copland’s Fanfare for the Common Man, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9.

Shows will be held at 8 p.m. on May 26, and 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. on May 27. Leelanau County Realtor Judy Levin of Coldwell Banker Schmidt Realtors is one of the concert sponsors.
