Man receives prison time for Maple City break-in

A Maple City man will spend the next one to 10 years in prison after being sentenced for the break-in of a Maple City business.

Adam J. Risbridger, 23, 308 W. Burdickville Rd., Maple City, was sentenced in the 13th Circuit Court by Judge Thomas G. Power for breaking and entering a building with intent, a felony offense punishable by up to 10 years in prison.

Risbridger also must pay $60 to the state crime victims fund, $350 in costs, $2,210.88 in additional restitution, and $60 in state felony costs.

According to court documents, on Jan. 24 county Sheriff’s Department deputies were called to a Maple City business to investigate a breaking and entering that occurred sometime in the late evening or early morning hours of Jan. 23-24. Deputies noticed that access to the building was gained by breaking open a portion of a wall made of plastic membrane. No items were taken, but an effort was made to pry the cash register open. Det. Clint Kerr interviewed staff at an adjoining business, a restaurant, who recalled serving a snowmobiler, and one of the people interviewed by Kerr recognized Risbridger when shown his mug shot. Snowmobile tracks were also observed at the scene.

In an interview on Feb. 1, Risbridger admitted he broke into the business and attempted to pry open the cash register. A screwdriver believed used in the break-in and on the cash register was found by Kerr after he obtained a search warrant for Risbridger’s home.

In addition to this breaking and entering charge, Risbridger was previously convicted of a breaking and entering in Leelanau County on Aug. 18, 2003, and of receiving and concealing stolen property in the county on Nov. 22, 2004.
