S-B posts top-3 track finishes

Suttons Bay’s boys’ and girls’ track teams competed at Manton Monday and Onekama Friday, and returned home with several individual champions and top-3 team finishes.

At the Manton meet, both Norsemen teams finished third. The girls’ team finished second at the Onekama Invitational, while the boys were third.

On Monday, first-place finishes went to Elizabeth Adams in the 1600 meter (6:01), Breanna Korson in the 400 meter (1:07), Jenny Mahla in the long jump (13’ 11 1/2”), the 800 meter relay team of Nick Porritt, Brandon Morio, Collin Gaudard and Eric Hernandez (1:40), Kegan Rummel in the discus (125' 6), and Josh Uprichard in the high jump (personal-record 6’0”).

“Overall, the Manton meet was a good night in which to run some kids in some new events and get some experience,” said Suttons Bay coach Cody Inglis. “These meets allow us to experiment with putting different kids in different events to get them experience so that when we go to the invitationals, they will be ready.”

At Manton, other top performances from the girls’ team included the 800 meter relay team of Caleigh Lennerth, Myra Schaub, Lizzy Freed and Sarah Simpkin (second in 2:03), the 400 meter relay of Lennerth, Robin Ostrowski, Freed, and Simpkin (second in 58:22), Korson in the 3200 meter (second in 12:42), Ostrowski in the 200 meter (third in 31.9), Simpkin in the 100 meter (third in 14.0), Lennerth in the 300 meter hurdles (second in 57.3) and 100 meter hurdles (second in 18.5), and Mahla in the 100 meter hurdles (third in 19.6).

Producing top-5 finishes from the boys’ team were Gaudard in the pole vault (third with a personal-best 11’0”), Rummel in the pole vault (fourth with a personal-best 10’0”), Sam Send in the long jump (second in 17’6”), the 3200 meter relay team of Brandon Morio, Ben Wynsma, Drew Palmer and Mark Jasinski ( second in 9:12 ), Ben Wynsma in the 3200 meter run (second with a personal-best 10:45) and 1600 meter (third in a personal-best 4:55), Morio in the 800 meter (fourth in 2:19), Hernandez in the 200 meter (second in 24.6) and 100 meter (third in 11.8), Porritt in the 100 meter (fourth in 12.0) and 200 meter (fourth in 25.0), and Rummel in the 300 meter hurdles (second in 45.9).
First-place finishers for the girls at the Onekama Invitational included Breanna Korson in the 800 meter (2:42) and 1600 meter (6:02), Mahla in the high jump (5’1”), Kelly Kerr in the long jump (14’10”), and the 3200 meter relay team of Alyssa Korson, Freed, Adams, and Breanna Korson (10:54).

Other top performers included Kerr in the high jump (fifth in 4’7”), Adams in the pole vault (fifth in 6’9”), Mahla in the long jump (fifth in 13’6”), the 1600 meter relay team of Alyssa Korson, Kerr, Freed, and Breanna Korson (second in 4:45), the 800 meter relay of Lennerth, Myra Schaub, Freed and Simpkin (third in 2:06), the 400-meter relay team of Lennerth, Schaub, Ostrowski and Simpkin (fourth in 58.9), Cassandra Buffum in the 3200 meter (second in 13:36), Adams in the 3200 meter (third in 13:53), Freed in the 400 meter dash (sixth in 1:12), Alyssa Korson in the 200 meter (third in :29.1), Simpkin in the 100 meter (fifth in 14.5), Alyssa Korson in the 300 meter hurdles (second in 54.3), and Lennerth in the 300 meter hurdles (fourth in 57.1) and 100 meter hurdles (fourth in 18.3).

Pacing the boys’ team at Onekama were Rummel in the discus (second in 125’) and 300 meter hurdles (third in 46.0), the 800 meter relay team of Porritt, Wheelock, Gaudard and Hernandez (second in 1:42.5), Wynsma in the 1600 meter (second in 4:58) and 3200 meter (second in 10:58), Hernandez in the 200 meter (second in 24.6) and 100 meter (fifth in 12.1), Gaudard in the pole vault (third in 10’6”), the 3200 meter relay team of Rummel, Morio, Juan Reyes and Mark Jasinski (fourth in 9:25), the 1600 meter relay team of Rummel, Jasinski, Andrew Wheelock and Morio (fourth in 3:59), the 400 meter relay team of Porritt, Wheelock, Gaudard, and Hernandez (fifth in 49.5), Drew Palmer in the 3200 meter (fifth in 11:35), Morio in the 200 meter (third in 2:19), and Porritt fourth in the 200 meter (fourth in 25.1).

Suttons Bay was scheduled to compete at Mesick yesterday, April 25, and on Friday at the Mason County Optimist Invitational.
