The Cherryland Humane Society will join with more than 2,000 other animal shelters in more than 25 countries for a “Pet Adoptathon” on Saturday, May 5.

The event precedes “National Be Kind to Animals Week,” May 6-12.

The focus of the adoptathon is to find homes for as many homeless pets as possible. The May 5 event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the regional animal shelter, located at 1750 Ahlberg Rd. in Traverse City.

A $5 spay/neuter rebate will be offered for any dog or cat not altered and adopted from the shelter during the event and through “National Be Kind to Animals Week.”
