Robert S. Walker of Northport has been appointed as the newest trustee on the board of directors to the Leelanau Township Community Foundation.

Walter served on the Northport Community Arts Center Board and is treasurer of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church in Northport and Atwell Memorial Chapel at Northport Point. He and his wife, Taffy, also attend Trinity Church in Northport.

In addition, Walker is an active member of the Fitness Center at Northport Highlands, the Northport Theatre company, the International Affairs Forum and the Northport Point Golf Club. He has his wife have traveled to the Gulf Coast twice to help with Hurricane Katrina relief.

Walker attended the U.S. Naval Academy and served in the Marines. He received a degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Michigan and retired after a varied 34-year career at IBM, where he worked primarily in sales, operations, business controls, finance and as a management development educator.

The Walkers raised three children while living in Connecticut and retired to Northport four years ago after spending their summers here. Taffy’s family has had a home in Northport for nearly 100 years.
