Mesick proved why it leads the Northwest Conference baseball race on Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs swept Glen Lake 15-8 and 8-6 to raise their league record to 6-2 with two games left. Glen Lake drops to 1-6-1 in the conference and 8-14-1 overall.
"We heard coming into the doubleheader that Mesick was one of the best hitting teams in northern Michigan," said coach Kris Herman. "And after watching how they hit against us, I believe it. I give them a lot of credit. But at the same time, we made a lot of silly mistakes defensively."
Herman couldn't fault his team's offense, which generated 14 runs in the doubleheader.
Josh Jacklin and KC Novak were the Lakers' hitting stars on the day. They had three hits in the first game and RBI doubles in the second.
John Bunek knocked in two runs in the first game.
Glen Lake was coming off a non-conference doubleheader split with Leland on Monday.
The Lakers won the first game 5-1 as Kyle Klumpp earned the win, striking out four. Josh Scarbrough had two hits and two RBI for Glen Lake, while Devin Weber added two hits and Sean Griffard two RBI.
In the second game, KC Novak had two hits, including a three-run double, and Brad Rosinski had a pair of hits. Leland was led by Adam Nedow, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles. Matt Lichty chipped in two hits and also got the 9-7 victory on the mound.
Glen Lake is off until Saturday, when it plays Traverse City St. Francis and Benzie Central in a round-robin tournament.
