Visitation will be held Friday, May 11, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Martinson Funeral Home; and a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 12, at 11 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Suttons Bay, for Nina R. Burton who died May 5 at Tendercare of Leelanau. She was 83.

She was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Alpena, the daughter of Nicholas and Ragna (Larson) Nelson. On Dec. 20, 1947, in Alpena, she married Jack Burton who survives.

She was skilled in crafts and was a very active member of the Suttons Bay community. She was a member of the PEO Women’s Group, the Immanuel Lutheran Church and its Bible study group, the Leelanau County Walkie Talkies and the Hiking and Skiing Group. She also enjoyed swimming and sailing.

She is also survived by her two children, Joan Burton Hunault of East Lansing and Mary Ruth Burton of Traverse City; two sisters, Ruth (Harry) Rice of Alpena and Mary (Charles) Medemar of Flint; and two grandsons.

She was predeceased by her siblings, Marion, Byron, Helen, June, Thelma, and a brother in infancy.

Burial will be at a later date in the Lutheran Cemetery of Suttons Bay. Memorials may be directed to Immanuel Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 206, Suttons Bay, MI 49682 and/or to PEO Chapter EM, P.O. Box 909, c/o Treasurer, Leland, MI 49654.
