An inspection to verify information on assessment cards for "improved" properties was authorized last week by the Centerville Township Board.
The board voted unanimously to approve the inspection of assessment cards for the properties as recommended by the state Tax Commission.
Assessor Julie Krombeen said the work – to compare what’s on the card with what’s actually on the property – is needed.
“We need to look for undocumented improvements such as decks — not everyone pulls permits for work done,” she said.
Some $3,500 was approved for the work that will involve about 1,500 parcels, Supervisor Leonard Kelenski said.
In other business during the regular May 9 meeting, the board:
• Adopted a mileage reimbursement fee of 48 cents per mile.
• Approved a contract with Heiney Maintenance for mowing and related work at township facilities. The company, which has worked for the township for several years, charges $100 to open and close the township park, and $60 to cut the grass at the township park and hall.
• Went on record stating tax bill receipts will not be sent to property owners unless requested. “At 41 cents per receipt, that adds up.” Kelenski said.
