Solon holds roundtable on zoning

A roundtable discussion about zoning matters was held last week in Cedar.

The Solon Township Board, along with representatives of the Planning Commission, Zoning Board of Appeals and Board of Review, gathered with newly appointed zoning administrator Tim Cypher and township attorney Dave Bieganowski Thursday, May 17 at the firehall.

“It was a gathering to see if we’re all heading in the same direction with the township — to see if we’re all working together,” township Clerk Shirley Mikowski said. “We wanted to make sure we were all on the same page and for the most part, I think we are.”

Also participating in the special meeting last week were Al Laskey, Planning Commission chairman; Keith Parker, chairman of the Zoning Board of Appeals; Planning Commission member Frank Rosinski; recording secretary Michelle Wilkes; and Tom Christensen of the Planning Commission and Board of Review.

Mikowski said that Cypher is scheduled to pick up where former zoning administrator Marvin Radtke left off in his work to update the township master plan and zoning ordinance. Radtke resigned in March after less than a year on the job.

Cypher is scheduled to conduct an informal survey of all those participating in last week’s meeting.

“He’s going to do a survey to see if we want growth, and where, so he’ll have everyone’s perspective on what they want for the future of the community,” Mikowski said.

It was the second special meeting of the week for Solon’s Township Board, which also met Tuesday, May 15, (as members of the Solon/Centerville Fire Board) to discuss a proposed fire ordinance.
