An exhibit entitled "Wood Boats of Leelanau: A Photographic Journal" will open Friday, June 22 at 7 pm at the Leelanau Historical Society Museum in Leland.
The exhibit will celebrate the society’s 50th anniversary and bring Leelanau’s maritime heritage to life with photos, hands-on exhibits, and a video presentation.
The opening reception introduces the society’s new full-color, 192-page hard-bound book, Wood Boats of Leelanau, by John Mitchell. The author will be on hand to autograph copies of the new book. Both the exhibit and the book delve deeply into the society’s historic photo archives to access a wealth of images.
“The Leelanau Historical Society is enthusiastic about the production of Wood Boats of Leelanau, the book brings history to life in an exciting way that the whole family can enjoy,” said society President Mark Nesbitt.
“The Wood Boats exhibit will present much of the book’s content in an accessible, interesting, and graphic form.”
All proceeds from the sale of the book will benefit the Leelanau Historical Society.
The exhibit will continue through September.
