Income-eligible county senior citizens can receive fresh locally grown vegetables through the “senior project fresh” initiative offered by the Michigan State University Extension office, state Office of Services to Aging, and the county Commission on Aging (COA).

Coupons to purchase the produce will be available on a first-come, first-served basis between June 1 and Sept. 30. Redemptions will continue through Oct. 31.

To qualify, participants must: have a total household income that does not exceed $18,889 for a household of one, or $25,327 for a household of two. In addition, recipients must be at least 60 years old and be a resident of Leelanau.

Coupons are being distributed through the county COA office.
