John and Jenn (Send) Gregory of Grand Rapids are running – literally – to fight poverty in the world.

John Gregory, the son of Don and Ann Gregory of Suttons Bay, and his wife Jenn are raising money for Global Business Assist, a non-profit organization dedicated to empowering the world’s powerless through micro-business development.

The Gregorys are in training to run their first marathon in Chicago this October, and are seeking sponsors in an effort to raise $93,000 for the organization.

“Their goal is to raise $93,000, a dollar for every step they take together in the marathon,” Ann Gregory said.

The couple, who have three daughters, set up a website where people can donate money to their cause.

“They’re asking $1 from each person for each step because to so many people in the world, $1 represents so much money,” Ann Gregory said.
