Schools offer summer programs

From a credit makeup program to a basketball camp parents have several options to enroll their children in summer activities through county schools.

Leland Public School will offer a children’s outdoor camp in conjunction with the Leelanau Children’s Center. The 9-week program is for students who are currently in kindergarten through third grade. The program, which provides children with opportunities to interact with others, begins June 18 and meets five days a week at Leland School. For more information, call the Leelanau Children’s Center at 256-7841.

Leland School will also hold a five-week summer school program, beginning June 18. Class will meet from 9 a.m. to noon Monday through Thursday the last two weeks of June, and be run by Lisa Shink. The program will not be held during the week of Fourth of July, but will resume on July 9. For more information, call Leland School at 256-9857.

The 31st annual Leelanau County Basketball Camp, in which boys and girls from kindergarten to eighth grade are eligible, will be held this month at Glen Lake School.

The camp for third to eighth graders will be held from 9 a.m. to noon June 18-21 and June 25-28. The cost is $65 for one week and $90 for both weeks. The camp for kindergarten through second or third graders will run 12:30 -2 p.m. June 18-21. The cost is $50 per child, and $80 for two siblings. The price includes a T-shirt if registered 10 days in advance.

Suttons Bay Public Schools will host a credit make-up program for high school students. The online program for core credit make-up only will take place in June and July.

The program will run Mondays through Thursdays, and is open to all students in Leelanau and Grand Traverse counties. Call Suttons Bay Public Schools at 271-3846 for more information.
