The ladies 9-hole and 18-hole golf leagues held their opening day of play Tuesday at Leland Country Club in cold and windy conditions.

Both leagues played two best balls of the three-member teams. In 9-hole play, 12 golfers participated and the team of Joanne Burnham, Jean Muir and Rita Palmer were first with a 59. Second-place honors at 72 were shared by the teams of Bev Almquist, Peg Meeker and Ann Nichols, and Marilyn Wenstrup, Ann Studer and Lucy Boesel.

Besty Elliott was the closest to the pin winner on No. 3, and Boesel was the long drive winner.

In the 18-hole league, nine golfers played with the team of Susan Green, Kathy Roberts and Nancy Sweeney first at 122. The team of Maryellen Hadjisky, Tracy VanRaalte and Lynda Leugers was second at 123, and Gretchen Sprout, Brab Jacoby and Jane Larigan third at 132.

Green had a birdie, and Hadjisky had a birdie and a chip-in.
