A new furnace boiler has been installed at the Grand Traverse Lighthouse through a $3,000 grant from the Leelanau Township Community Foundation.
The museum applied for the grant to go toward the $6,950 project. All other funding was raised through the donations and fundraisers.
“The new Lochinvar Knight boiler system was finally installed at the end of April,” said executive director Stefanie Staley. She said heating costs for the lighthouse and the surrounding historic buildings reached nearly $1,500 during some recent winter months.
The Grand Traverse Lighthouse Museum is continuing work on its mission to raise nearly $225,000 for capital improvements to the historic lighthouse and the surrounding buildings. In partnership with the Leelanau Township Community Foundation, a capital campaign pass-through account has been established and is maintained by the foundation.
