One of two longtime teachers featured by the Enterprise last week is being recognized as a Outstanding Person In Education (OPIE).

Mary Lou Landry, who will retire from Leland at the end of this week after 39 years in education, was one of 10 people recognized this week with an OPIE award, given by the Traverse City Area Chamber of Commerce. Landry, who was nominated by her colleagues, was recognized for her contributions to the Leland School community during her tenure there.
She was presented the award during a ceremony last night at Northwestern Michigan College's Dennos Museum Center in the Milliken Auditorium.
Landry and retiring Suttons Bay teacher Bill Green, who between the have more than 75 years’ experience in the classroom, were featured in last week’s Enterprise.
