Services were held Monday in Traverse City for Kasson Township native Sophia A. Dezelski who died May 30 at Grand Traverse Pavilions. She was 94.
She was born in Kasson Township on March 2, 1913, the daughter of William and Constantia (Wozniak) Dezelski. In November, 1931, in Maple City, she married Leon Dezelski who preceded her in death.
She worked for many years as a licensed practical nurse. After retiring, she volunteered at the All Faiths Chapel and Munson Hospital. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the altar guild.
She is survived by her daughter, Marcella (Lester) Smith, and her son, Eugene (Marilyn) Dezelski, both of Traverse City; her sister, Esther Moody of Oregon; several grandchildren, great-and great-great grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Martha, in infancy; six brothers, Steve, Edward, Julius, Anthony, Ignace and John Levenski; and four sisters, Agnes, in infancy, Hattie Endres, Mary Youker and Rose Tesnear.
Burial was in Oakwood Catholic Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the March of Dines, a charity of one’s choice, or Mass Intentions.
