Following are results from Leelanau County golf leagues and events:
The ladies 9-hole and 18-hole leagues played at Leland Country Club on Tuesday, June 12, and held two events: one best ball per cart, and two best balls per two carts. Gretchen Sprout and Kathy Angus placed first with a 64 In the one best ball event in the 18-hole league, while the winner of the two best ball event was the foursome of Jane Kiernan, Kathy Roberts, Maryellen Hadjisky and Jane Larigan. Lynda Leugers won the long drive contest and had a chip-in, while Larigan was the closest to the pin winner on No. 18 and also had a chip-in.
In 9-hole play, Kathy Draper and Mona Draper shot a 23 to win the one best ball event. in the two best ball event, the team of Mary Wenstrup, Phyllis LeMar, Marilyn Sichler and Jan Roth placed first with a 58. Peg Meeker won the closest to the pin event on No. 6, and Kathy Draper was the long drive winner.
The Women’s League at the Dunes Golf Club held a “Joker’s Wild” team event on Wednesday, June 6. The team of Hattie Townsend, Kathy Brodhagen, Barbara Munson and Mary Paddon won first-place honors.
Three teams tied for second place, including Jeanine Dean, Aline Getchell and Kay Smith; Sharon Blanksma, Betty Hadley, Carole Merillat and Gerry Brady; and Betty Schaefer, Betty Lorenz and Sandy Hardy.
Also on June 6, Men’s Day was held at Leland Country Club with the best two balls of the foursome counted. The team of George Barbee, Jerry Muir, Jim Cusick and Jim Poor placed first at 126. Dave Hunter, Scott Craig, Bill Brunnell and Norb Gits were second at 128, Buzz Finke, Ted Sichler, Dennis Gripentrog and John Hoppin third at 132, and David Sprout, Bud Boesel, Bill Bryant and John Watkins fourth at 138.
Muir and Gripentrog were the winners of the long drive contests and the closest to the pin competitions, and Scott Craig and George Barbee won skins.
The Thursday morning Ladies League has opened play at The Leelanau Club at Bahle Farms. The league has seven new members for a total of 36 golfers, and held its first two weeks of competition on May 31 and June 7.
On May 31, a scramble format, first place went to Carol Bendig, Mary Skrocki and Carol Kapnick. Taking second was the team of Mary Kent Ireland, Patsy Marciniak, Nancy Canfield and Jeannie Beers. On June 7, the game of the day was Reverse Your Score. The winners were Iva Stowe in Flight A, Marciniak in Flight B, and Mary Tonneberger in Flight D.
