Two 'run/walk' events planned

Two "run/walk" events will be held on the last two Saturdays in June in Leelanau County.

On Saturday, June 23, the Glen Arbor Art Association (GAAA) will host a family 5K run/walk starting at 8:30 a.m.

Registration begins at 7 a.m. at the Glen Arbor Township Park. An entry fee of $15 will be charged. Runners and walkers may register in advance at the GAAA for $10 until Friday, June 22. Online registration information is also available at www.glenarborart.org.

After the run, refreshments will be served and random drawings held for prizes donated by the GAAA, Running Fit, Boone Docks, Bear Paw Pizza, Undercover Vegetable Company, Leelanau Coffee, Cherry Republic and more.

All proceeds will go to the GAAA. For more information, call 334-6112.

On the following Saturday, June 30, the American Cancer Society’s Leelanau Crusade will be held in Northport.

The event has been endorsed by the Governor’s Council on Physical Fitness, Health and Sports, and proceeds will be used to fight cancer.

The Leelanau Crusade will include 2 mile, 5K and 10K runs, and a 2 mile walk. The running events will take place at 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., with the walk to follow.

Several age divisions – from 14 and under to 75 and over – will be offered to male and female participants.

The entry fee is $20. Checks should be made payable to the American Cancer Society and mailed to George W. Anderson, Race Director, 310 W. Third St., Northport, MI 49670. For more information, call Anderson at (231) 386-5188 or write to him at gwanderson@chartrmi.net.
