Homeless families with children may be eligible for rental assistance through the Michigan State Housing Development Authority.
“Homeless” is defined as having no regular and adequate nighttime residence, including those living in a shelter or transitional facility designed to provide temporary living accommodations; an institution that provides temporary residence for individuals intended to be institutionalized; people who go from home to home, sleeping on a couch, or those in a public or private place not designed for ordinary use as sleeping accommodations (streets, state park or in an automobile).
Eligible people must have annual incomes below 30 percent of the area median income, in Leelanau County it is $15,300 for a family of two; $17,200 for three; $19,100, for four; and $20,650 for five.
