Following are results from golf leagues and events in Leelanau County:
The ladies 9-hole and 18-hole leagues at Leland Country Club played a three-person scramble event on Tuesday, June 19.
In 9-hole play, the team of Jean Wood, Phyllis LeMar and Ann Studer placed first with a 47. A four-person scramble was also held, with Joanne Burnham, Barb Gentile, Lucy Boesel and Jan Roth first at 47. Peg Meeker was the long-drive winner.
In the 18-hole league, the team of Carol Burchfield, Betty Poole and Carol Bowden carded a 75 to take first place. In second with an 80 was the team of Jane Kiernan, Nancy Sweeney and Tracy VanRaalte, and the trio of Mary Zink, Frank Rhoton and Gretchen Sprout was third at 81. Bowden was closest to the pin on No. 6, VanRaalte had the long drive, and two chip-ins were recorded by Gretchen Sprout and another by Maryellen Hadjisky.
A junior golf event was held at Leland Country Club on Monday, June 18. Among the 9-holers, Joe Pendergast was first with a 52 and Claire Schaljo second at 53. Will Watkins and Will Saffell each shot 48 and tied for first in the 6-hole competition, and Jason Elder shot a 38 to win the 4-hole competition.
Leland Country Cub played host to a breakfast scramble on Saturday, June 16. In first place with a 65 was the team of Steve Chambers, Allen Northcutt and Dave Lemak. In second with a 66 was the trio of Buzz Finke, Glen Gerard and Jim Wysor. The teams of Ron Ward, Ray Rhoton and Scott Craig, and Jim Varley, Larry Nelson and George Barbee tied for third at 67.
Closest to the pin honors went to Warren Watkins, Ted Sichler, Wysor, Finke and Chambers. Ron Ward and Dick Kiernan were the long drive winners, and the Chambers-Northcutt-Lemak team won two skins.
On Friday, June 15, the Women’s League held play at the Dunes Golf Club and staged a putting competition. Ellie Griffin was first in Flight A with 11 putts. There was a five-way tie for second place, with Aline Getchell, Doris Loznak, Lorraine Mathes, Kay Smith and Hattie Townsend all recording 16 putts. In Flight B, Barbara Braly was first with 15 putts and Marilyn Rank second with 16. Carole Roach was first in Flight C with 17 putts, and Joy Wall second at 18.
A two-man scramble event was held as part of Men’s Day play on Wednesday, June 13 at Leland Country Club. First-place honors went to Dave Hunter and George Barbee with a 52. John Held and Kiernan were second at 53, and Finke and John Watkins placed third at 53.5.
Hunter was the long drive winner, Kiernan won the long drive in the over-65 age category, Bob Willard was closest to the pin on No. 3, and Bud Boesel was closest to the pin on No. 1 after two shots.
