The number of building permits issued by the Leelanau County Building Inspection Department as well as the estimated construction values associated with those permits have fallen for the fourth straight year.

By this time last year, the number of permits issued was 13 percent more than the number issued to date this year. Over the latest two-week reporting period, only 24 new building permits were filed for public review at the Building Inspections department, bringing the year-to-date total to 189 permits issued.

Construction values associated with the 24 new permits totaled $1,461,569, bringing the year-to-date total to $11,798,309. That amount is more than 21 percent below the estimated values seen by the same time in 2006.

By this time in 2003, some 239 permits had been issued, valued at $23,986,611.

This year’s permit totals are 21 percent behind 2003’s totals. The total estimated construction values for 2003 were more than 50 percent higher than this year’s totals.

Following is a list of projects for which permits have been issued over the latest two-week reporting period, listed by the community in which the work is being done:
