1921 - 2007
Burial services were held Monday at the Cleveland Township Cemetery for Maple City native Rose Emily Fluhrer who died June 19 in Youngtown, Ariz. She was 86.
She was born on March 20, 1921, in Maple City, the daughter of Casper and Bessie (Martinu) Hlavka. On Nov. 6, 1940, she married Julius Levenske, who preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by husband Jack Fluhrer and special friend Ed Wasel.
She grew up on the family farm in Cleveland Township and provided nursing care for more than 25 years in Traverse City. She served as a VISTA volunteer in Vermont and Michigan. She was an active volunteer with Immaculate Conception Church, providing communion to people who were homebound.
She is survived by her children, Judy (Bill) Barrons, Tom (Val) Levenske and Nancy (Jerry) Stewart; sister, Alice Sabuda; five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Arnold.
