1942-2007

A memorial service was held last week in Texas and a local service will be held later this month for seasonal Leelanau County resident Brent G. Hughes who died June 23 in San Antonio. He was 64.

He was born on Nov. 24, 1942, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Thomas Hughes and Janet Hughes, who survives. Also surviving is his wife of 42 years, Kay B. Hughes.

A graduate of Michigan State University, he and his wife spent every summer on Glen Lake. He was a 22 year employee of Associates Commercial Corp. and retired as a senior vice president of Rush Enterprises in San Antonio in 2005. An avid golfer, he achieved a hole-in-one at a charity golf event in San Antonio just two weeks prior to this death.

Also surviving are his daughter, Holly H. (Tom) Reay of Glen Arbor; a brother, Donald (Sumino) Hughes of Pennsylvania; sister-in-law Betsy (Gil) Webb of Glen Arbor; and two grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Glen Lake Community Library, the Cancer Therapy & Research Center in San Antonio, or a charity of one’s choice.
