The Fourth of July was fun, but Leelanau is preparing for an even more important parade.
A solemn procession of the Vietnam Memorial Traveling Wall will travel through Leelanau County this morning.
A contingent of law enforcement officers from Leelanau County will meet the Memorial Wall, which will be transported atop semi-trucks, at M-22 at the Grand Traverse border about 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 12. The solemn procession, including 250 accompanying motorcyclists, will move north to Peshawbestown, where it will be displayed.
Leelanau County undersheriff Scott Wooters expects the Memorial Wall to draw crowds as it travels through Leelanau, and once it is erected.
"It's going to be like a parade. We're (deputies) helping the (Grand Traverse) Band to get it from our border up to the casino."
