For the third week in a row, USEA finished first overall in a Northport Bay Yacht Club race.
Instead of boat owner Tom Gallery winning the trophy in the annual Ladies Race, however, the prize went to his daughter, Amanda Gallery.

First place three weeks running
Gusty winds propelled USEA and her crew around the 10-mile course in one hour and 34 minutes – considered an outstanding time for a 22-foot boat.
Lynnelle Rehkopf took first in her class in Great Expectations and had the best elapsed time of one hour and 30 minutes. Second place honors were taken by Deb Wetherbee in Suzy and Sandy Zwemer in Tranquility. Third place winners were Lynn Allen in Ragtime and Sandy Mills in Phase Two.
Requirements of the Ladies Race are that each boat must be piloted by a female for at least one full leg and for the finish.
Wetherbee also took honors for best start, only six seconds off her scheduled start time, computed by a handicap formula that schedules each boat to a unique starting time.
On Saturday, a Rendezvous Cruise to Omena Bay is planned for 11 a.m. On the following Saturday, July 21, the club is planning its Bluewater Race with the final course to be announced by Commodore John Woomer at the 10:30 a.m. skippers meeting at the Northport Marina.
The Northport Bay Yacht Club held a pancake breakfast just before the Ladies Race and raised more than $500 for future club social activities.
“This was an outstanding result,” said Woomer. “We really appreciate the efforts of the members who prepared and did all the cooking as well as all the boaters who joined in to eat with us.”
