Following are results from Leelanau County golf leagues and events:
The ladies 18-hole and 9-hole leagues at Leland Country Club held play on Tuesday, July 10.
In the 18-hole league, the game of “Strategy” was played and the team of Jane Schermer, Maureen Watkins, Barb Jacoby and Lynda Leugers placed first at 128. In second at 142 was the foursome of Maryellen Hadjisky, Janice Lemak, Nancy Gottschalk and Gretchen Sprout.
Jane Kiernan won he long drive contest, Leugers (No. 11) and Mary Zink (No. 16) were the closest to the pin winners, Schermer and Watkins had chip-ins, and Schermer had a birdie.
In 9-hole play, the team of Jan Roth, Phyllis LeMar and Gloria Steel was first at 32 in the best ball event. In low net play, Roth (32), LeMar (40), and Marilyn Sickler, Shirley Dillow and Alisann Kepler (42) were the top finishers. Paula Gitts won the long drive event, Roth was closest to the pin in No. 6, and Rita Palmer had a chip-in.
The ladies 18-hole league also played a game of Hot Seat on Tuesday, July 3, at Leland Country Club. Among foursomes in Flight 1, there was a two-way tie for first place at 143 involving the teams of Susan Green, Gottschalk, Watkins and Kathy Angus, and Carol Bawden, Ellan Mershan, Jacoby and Katie Roberts. In Flight 2 involving threesomes, the team of Kiernan, Kathy Scherer and Gretchen Sprout placed first with a 143.
Bawden and Kiernan won the long drive contests, Tracy VanRaalte won the closest to the pin event on No. 11, and Gottschalk was closest to the pin on No. 13 in two shots. Birdies were recorded by Kit Mayberry, VanRaalte, Bawden and Kiernan, and Sprout had a chip-in.
In the 9-hole league on July 3, a low net event was held and Kathy Draper placed first with a 38. Betty Elliott and Peg Meeker tied for second at 41, and Elliott had the long drive on No. 1.
Allen Northcutt, Pete Bidlingmeyer and Grace Keeble earned top honors at the Charles Freeman Cup played Wednesday, July 4 at Leland Country Club. The low net event included 47 participants.
Nortchutt had a 68 to place first among golfers playing from the blue tees. He was followed by Jim Shad and Ted Neild, who each had 67, Todd Neuhart at 68, and Charles Freeman, Pete Kiernan, Mark McClelland and Ross Satterwhite at 69. Bidlingmeyer’s 66 placed first from the white tees, with George Barbee second at 68, Jack Mead third at 69, and Chuck McConnell fourth at 73. Among those playing from the red tees, Keeble was first at 70, Alice Neild second at 73, and Kathy Scherer and Molly Barbee third at 74.
The game of the week was the sum of par four holes in the Thursday morning ladies league at The Leelanau Club at Bahle Farms on July 5. The winners were Carol Kapnick in Flight A, Carol Fleming in Flight B, and Kay Ann Tant in Flight C. Birdies were recorded by Katie Roberts on No. 3 and Donna Nehil on No. 15.
