The Glen Lake Women’s Club will host its 36th annual Art Fair next Wednesday, July 18, at the Glen Arbor Township hall.
A crowd of 2,000 people is anticipated for the event. The juried fair will feature more than 90 artisans with fine arts and crafts. Local artists such as Nina Mann, Ted Gilmer and Mary Turak, as well as others coming from as far away as Florida, are expected.
“There’s something for everyone,” said club member Ellen Figura, adding that the club always has a booth with “tag sale” items available for purchase.
Featured work includes jewelry, garden art, and handmade clothing from artists known to participate in larger venues, such as Ann Arbor.
There will also be a raffle with items donated by four artists. Prizes include a handmade quilt, Petoskey stone necklace, a framed quilted picture, and large pottery pitcher.
The fair started as a farmer’s market nearly 40 years ago, held in front of the township hall. It grew as space was found for more participants.
Proceeds are used to provide more than $10,000 in annual scholarships to students graduating from Glen Lake Community Schools.
