Conservancy docent Dick Fidler and barn expert Steve Stier will lead a barn construction workshop at the DeYoung Natural Area in Elmwood Township Saturday afternoon.
Stier is a licensed builder specializing in historic preservation who uses traditional construction methods and materials, and a consultant for owners of older buildings. He also teaches timber frame construction methods.
Stier and Fidler will take participants around the DeYoung Natural Area, where they will view several old farm buildings and learn about their structure and unique characteristics. The workshop, which is co-sponsored by the Grand Traverse Pioneer and Historical Society, will be offered twice — at 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.
Registration is required and may be completed by calling the Conservancy at 256-9665.
