Boats, antiques, professional water skis, tools — you name it, and chances are it will be available for purchase at the annual barn sale for the Suttons Bay Conservation League.
The sale, which serves as the league’s biggest fundraiser of the year, will be held Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the former Mawby fruit stand across M-22 from Plant Masters.
Leon Smith, who for years served as the league’s president, is once again helping to organize the event. He described what might be considered the marquee item offered at the sale: an 18-foot Sea Otter boat resting in his front yard.
The inboard motor, Smith said, may need some work, but he expected the league to place a price tag on the boat that is a fraction of the $8,900 price recently sought by its owner.
“We’ll probably sell it for less than $2,000,” said Smith. “It’s beautiful; it really looks like new.”
Also on the selling block will be a 42-inch television and a 15-hp outdoor motor. The hodgepodge of goods donated to the club could include just the item that a sports person, handyman or hobbyist might need.
So would it be fair to say that everything including the kitchen sink will be on sale?
“I don’t know about that,” said Smith. “But I know their is a lavatory sink.”
League members are also selling raffle tickets. Prizes include a compound bow donated by the Darton Bow Company with a value of $549.
