The Suttons Bay-Leelanau County Rotary Club will take on five other local Rotary organizations in the second annual Rotary Blood Challenge.

The winner of the challenge will be the club that recruits the most number of blood donors, figured as a percentage of its membership. The more members who donate, the better the chance for winning.

The other Rotary clubs participating are Traverse Bay Sunrise Rotary; Rotary Club of Traverse City; Traverse Bay Twilight Rotary; Rotary Club of Elk Rapids; and the Rotary Club of Kalkaska.

The blood donations will be done during the month of August at all Michigan Community Blood Centers’ blood drives. The public may participate in the challenge as well by asking that their donation count towards the total of the Rotary club of his or her choice.

The Rotary challenge is taking place during August to help boost the areas blood supply, as supplies tend to get low at this time of year.
