1916 - 2007

Longtime Northport area summer resident Barbara P. Hughes of Dewitt died on June 25. She was 90.

She was born Oct. 14, 1916, the daughter of Howard and Laura Piatt. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Harvey M. Hughes.

For part of every year of her life, she lived in the cottage her parents built on Paradesia Point in 1924. In 1940, she became one of the first women in the Lansing area to earn a pilot’s license. She was also an avid horsewoman and was known as a gracious hostess.
