Frank E. Korson

1920-2007

Frank E. Korson of Suttons Bay, Michigan passed away on July 19, 2007. He was 87 years old. Mr. Korson was the youngest of 11 children born to Martin and Anna Kovarik Korson of Gills Pier, Michigan. After growing up on a farm in Gills Pier, Frank served in the Army during World War II rising to the rank of sergeant. He was initially stationed at Fort Bragg where he met his future wife Martha Whitley. After spending time in Burma and China he returned from the war and married Martha. The two lived in North Carolina for a few years before moving back to Northport, Michigan. Later in 1957 they moved to Suttons Bay, Michigan where he resided for the remainder of his years.

Frank was a very accomplished carpenter, working exclusively on Northport Point all of his adult life where he gained an outstanding reputation. He retired in the mid-1980s, but continued to do some carpenter work during the summers, spending the winters in Pensacola, Florida. Frank was also an avid fisherman, spending many hours aboard his boat (The Gin & Sin) out in Suttons Bay and Lake Michigan. He also was an avid card player, enjoying playing euchre and Bridge.

He was preceded in death by all of his brothers and sisters, and his wife Martha M. Korson (1992). Surviving are two sons Edward A. Korson and Robert E. Korson, Robert’s spouse Rosalie M. Korson, and four grandchildren Sarah E. Korson, and Leslie M. Korson, Laurel K. Greenwood, and Katie C. Greenwood.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, Aug. 1st, form 2-4pm & 6-8pm, with a 7pm Rosary at Reynolds Jonkhoff Funeral Home. A Memorial Mass will be held Thursday, Aug. 2nd, at 11 a.m., with visitation 1 hour prior, at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Suttons Bay. Burial will follow at St. Michael’s Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Grand Traverse area Alzheimer’s Association.
