'Genuine Leelanau' grants being offered

Grant dollars are available to non-profit organizations or groups that work to enhance the lives and culture of women, children and families in Leelanau County through the Genuine Leelanau Charitable Fund of the Grand Traverse Regional Community Foundation.

The Genuine Leelanau Charitable Fund, formerly the Leelanau County Women’s Foundation, is accepting grant applications for 2007. Applications are due no later than Friday, Aug. 31.

Applications must be obtained online by visiting the community foundation website at www.gtrcf.org/grants and clicking on the Genuine Leelanau Charitable Endowment Fund link.

The Genuine Leelanau grants must support nonprofit organization or groups that are participating in the integrated arts and other projects that benefit children and families in need in Leelanau County. Since 1966, more than $75,000 in grants have been awarded to benefit Leelanau County.

Among programs sponsored by the grants in 2006 are: The Laundry Project, Suttons Bay Schools’ Exposures Student Journal, Munson Hospice Art Therapy Program, the Leelanau Children’s Choir Youth Ensemble, and the Glen Arbor Art Association migrant art program.
