1908-2007

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City for Bingham Township native Garnet Ruth DeTour who died Aug. 13 at Tendercare Health Center of Leelanau in Suttons Bay. She was 99.

She was born on May 6,1908, to Louis Boone and Cassie (Byers) Boone in Bingham Township. On Sept. 17, 1936, she married Levi J. DeTour who preceded her in death in May 1982.

She was born and raised on a farm in Bingham Township. She especially enjoyed picking cherries and loved being in the berry patch. She was an active member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, was also active in the Women’s Guild and helped with funeral luncheons. She also volunteered at Munson Hospital.

She is survived by her daughter, Sue (Joe) Priest of Suttons Bay; a son, Edward DeTour of Sault Ste. Marie; a sister, Bernice Kappler of Livonia; a brother, Louis E. (Marie) Boone of Chelsea; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Lee DeTour; three sisters, Olive, Catherine and Roberta; three brothers, Lester, William and Robbins; and a great-granddaughter.

Interment will take place at Oakwood Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Father Fred Foundation or Mass Intentions.
