1914-2007

A funeral Mass was celebrated Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Traverse City for lifelong Leelanau County resident Lucille M. Ely who died Aug. 11 at Munson Medical Center. She was 92.

She was born in Elmwood Township on Dec. 13, 1914, one of 13 children of Paul and Blanche (Zelinski) Watkoski. On June 26, 1937, in Traverse City, she married Henry D. Ely who preceded her in death on Dec. 13, 1991.

She was a homemaker and a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. She loved to be out of doors and spent many hours working in her yard and especially enjoyed raising flowers in her gardens.

She is survived by her son, Terry (Becky Doren) of Lake Leelanau; a sister, Mary Culman of Ionia; a granddaughter and a step-grandson.

She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Irene Prevo, Sadie Nemic, Anna Fouch, Agnes Zientek, Nettie Watkoski, Helen Glendenning, Al, John, Harry and Paul Watkoski and Ed Waters.

Burial will be in Oakwood Catholic Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Northwestern Michigan College Maritime Academy, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, or a charity of one’s choice.
