MEMBERS OF THE Round Table Singers include (from left) Larry Graves,
Jerry Boone, Barbara Graves, Margaret Bell, Pam Shaberly,
Margaret Lott, Sandy Boone, Steve Weldon and John Glover.
The Round Table Singers of Suttons Bay will conclude their summer music series on Sunday, Sept. 9 at the Suttons Bay Congregational Church at 4 p.m..
The choral group will perform songs from a variety of genres, including jazz, pop, gospel and show. A dancer will also be featured at the program, which is free though donations will be welcomed.
The group was founded by John and Marion Glover and is celebrating its 10th year. Glover said he and his wife were involved with the Leelanau Community Choir for many years, but left as they wanted to pursue other interests.
“Jerry Boone was the one who suggested we form a different group,” Glover said. With Marion as the accompanist, the Round Table Singers were formed and initially performed madrigal pieces. The group members came up with their name from an obvious source.
“We did meet at a round table and it seemed like a good title,” Glover said.
The Round Table Singers only perform during the summer. They started with six members and are now up to nine. Glover said most of the songs they perform are from jazz, but they also do songs from popular music and show tunes.
Marion Glover will be the piano soloist and Steve Weldon is the group’s sound man.
