BOARD MINUTES

The following is a synopsis of the August 14, 2007 regular meeting of the Empire Township Board. A complete copy of the minutes may be obtained by contacting the Clerk.

Supervisor Bolton called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m. Members present: Deering, Pendleton, Neiswonger, and Noonan. Minutes of the 7-10-07 regular meeting were approved.

Campground, Treasurer, and Planning reports were heard. Planning is hoping to schedule a public hearing in September to hear comments on the proposed new zoning ordinance.

Board continued discussions re the possible merger of the Empire and Glen Arbor fire departments. Primarily due to concerns of having enough volunteer firefighters available to respond to emergencies and the rising costs of operating our own fire department, motion was approved that Empire favors consolidating the two departments. Based on initial consolidation startup costs and the changeover to more 24/7 service, motion was approved to levy the maximum allowable millage for 2007 in the amount of 4.2515.

Other actions approved by motions: 1) Entered into the Uniform Video Service Local Franchise Agreement with Charter Communications to provide cable TV within the township. 2) Waived the township hall rental fees for events to raise funds for the Vanderberg family. 3) Paid monthly bills.
