Hundreds of people showed up for an "open mic" night Saturday at the Suttons Bay Marina Park, followed by a fireworks display over the bay.

Open mic night at the park also brought a collection of musicians (right) who jammed for a crowd of several hundred people just before a fireworks display.

This is the fourth straight year that the Village of Suttons Bay has hosted a Labor Day weekend fireworks display. The first was to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the village’s founding in 2004.

The Labor Day weekend event was so popular and successful that village officials decided to continue putting on a fireworks show. A talent show offered at last year’s event was transformed this year into an “open mic” night that drew dozens of musicians to the stage.

The entire program, including the fireworks, were paid for by members of the Suttons Bay business community as well as through donations collected in canisters placed around the village over the past several months.
