1924-2007
Service were held Friday at the Northport Covenant Church, with burial in Leelanau Township Cemetery, for lifelong Northport resident Edward Nelson Kehl who died Aug. 28 at his home. He was 83.
He was born in Northport on Aug. 14, 1924, to Rufus Bates Kehl and Myrtle Ingra Nelson. On Dec. 9, 1954, in Benzonia, he married Vida Jane Skelly, who survives.
A skilled meat cutter, he was noted for the quality of his sausages, bologna and hot dogs. He also drove Northport school buses for 25 years. He loved reading Western books. In his retirement years, he spent winters in Tucson, Arizona.
Also surviving are his sons, Jim (Donna) of Calumet, Willard Horn of Suttons Bay, Timothy (Vicki) Kehl of Northport, Chris (Susan) Kehl of Tucson; a brother, Rufus Kehl of Waltersboro, S.C.; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Craker; and a stepson, Gary Horn.
