Subscriptions to the 2007-08 season of the International Affairs Forum at Northwestern Michigan College are now available.
The eight-part series brings diplomats, policy makers, journalists and others from all over the globe to Milliken Auditorium for monthly lectures beginning Sept. 20. All programs begin with a reception in the Sculpture Court of the Dennos Museum Center at 5:15 p.m. and are followed at 6 p.m. by the lecture and a discussion period in Milliken Auditorium. All current educators and students are admitted free.
Two levels of forum membership are available:
• Subscribers pay $125 and receive 16 tickets good for any lecture;
• Patrons pay $300 and, in addition to the 16 tickets, receive recognition at each lecture and an opportunity to have dinner with the speaker.
Contributions may be claimed as a charitable tax deduction to the NMC Foundation. Tickets are available by calling 995-1700.
Speakers currently scheduled include:
• Sept. 20— Retired ambassador Robert B. Oakley, a diplomat whose half-century career in the U.S. Foreign Service took him to many conflict-prone posts in Africa, Asia and the Middle East. He will speak on When to Intervene and When Not To.
• Oct. 18 — Retired State Department officer Ray Ewing, also editor of a magazine specializing on the Mediterranean, speaking on issues relating to Turkey and neighboring countries.
• Nov. 15 — Journalist Richard Halloran, who wrote The Rising East, a column about Asia-U.S. relations that appears in both Asian and American publications. He will speak on China: Lovable Panda or Crouching Dragon?
Speakers for the remainder of the season are being selected. Lecture dates are Feb. 21, March 20, April 17, May 15 and June 19.
