Alice Stoppelberg

1909-2007

Services were held last month in Kalamazoo for Northport native Alice Stoppelberg who died Aug. 28. She was 98.

She was born April 1, 1909, in Forsyth, Mont., the daughter of Norman and Edna (Braman) Thomas. On Dec. 3, 1938, she married Harm H. Stoppelberg who preceded her in death on Sept. 25, 2001.

Her family returned to Northport when she was two years-old. She graduated from Northport High School in 1928. She attended both Olivet College and Western Teachers Institute where she received her teaching certificate. She and her husband lived in the Kalamazoo area where she was a homemaker and an active member of Oakwood Bible Church.

She is survived by her two children, Mary (Richard) Kirby of Schoolcraft and Thomas (Barbara Hopps) Stoppleberg of Portage; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and three step-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter; a brother, Eugene Thomas; and a sister, Frances Wood.

Interment was in Mt. Ever-Rest Memorial Park in Kalamazoo. Memorial contributions may be directed to Oakwood Bible Church in Kalamazoo.
