Drivers who travel M-22 between County Road 675 and east of Thoreson Road in Glen Arbor Township will face delays over the next three weeks while a maintenance project is taking place.
Rise Rasch, director of the Michigan Department of Transportation Traverse City office, said Rieth-Riley Construction began working on the nearly 21⁄2-mile stretch of M-22 Monday as part of a $660,000 project. During daylight hours driver’s should expect some travel delays since there will be lane closures during the resurfacing work.
“This is a project that will extend the life of the existing pavement. We wanted to give people who live in the area a heads-up on the work,” she said.
The project should be completed no later then Oct. 12, depending on the weather. In addition to the surface maintenance, Rieth-Riley will add pavement to the shoulders along M-22 as part of an ongoing effort to make the state highway more friendly for other road users.
“As we do work on M-22 throughout Leelanau County, we are including adding pavement to the road’s shoulders where possible so there is more room for bicycles and walkers,” Rasch said.
