'Hoop house' crop workshop planned

A free one-day workshop for farmers and aspiring farmers on how to grow crops in low-cost "hoop house" greenhouses will be offered on Friday, Oct. 5, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Black Star Farms in Bingham Township.

Dr. John Biernbaum, who directs the Community Supported Agriculture Student Organic Farm at Michigan State University, will explain how “hoop houses” can extend growing seasons and help meet the increasing year-round consumer demand for fresh, local food.

For more information and to register, contact Julie Hay of the Michigan Land Use Institute at 941-6584 ext. 19.
