A Norris Elementary tradition continued Monday afternoon when the school held Fun & Funky Field Day.

Norris students had the opportunity to participate in up to 35 outdoors activities, including a bean bag toss, hockey dribble, kangaroo race, scrambled tire run, lawn bowling, face painting, and 50-yard dash. School employees and parents gave check marks to students when an activity was completed.

“They had to complete all 35 if they wanted to do another event again,” said Norris principal Lisa Craker. “The goal was to stress sportsmanship, cooperation and manners.”

Fun & Funky Day also included a tug-of-war and classroom activities on Monday morning.

Norris physical education instructor Kelly Roscher, who helped organize the event, said Fun & Funky Day was first started 22 years ago.

“It’s a nice opportunity for the kids because they get exercise, get to know other students at Norris, and have fun along the way,” she said.

Craker also announced that the school would be holding an essay contest with the Elmwood Township Fire Department in which students will write about fire safety. She said students will get a chance to ride a firetruck to school as part of the event. For more information, call Norris at 933-8660.
